Mistress of Peace Promotion. Currently practicing Yoga and Qi Gong while writing, reading or sleeping. Fresh air needed at all times. Camera at the ready.
I work with writers to help them shape, bring clarity to and focus their work. I teach skills and strategies that are helpful for all writing genres, creative, academic, business, etc. I work as a writing consultant in higher education.
I write poetry, fiction, essays and am a former freelance book and film critic. All criticism has now been tossed off the nearest cliff.
My poetry has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and a California Book Award.
My most recent essay was published in the Smith Alumnae Quarterly.
My poems have been published in Wordpeace, riverbabble, Milvia Street, The Squaw Review, The New Poets of the American West, Temba Tupu! Walking Naked: Africana Womens' Poetic Self-Portrait, Skin Deep: Women Writing About Color, Culture and Identity, and elsewhere.
I've been an Artist in Residence with the California Arts Council and have been awarded residencies at Vermont Studio Center, Hedgebrook, Virgnia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Writers on Site Program of Poets & Writers, Inc. sponsored by the James Irvine Foundation.
